Bare Metal VDI with HPE Moonshot: A Powerful Solution for Service Providers

For many companies, the speed and agility to get new compute resources up and running without having to go through new procurement cycles gives a massive advantage, especially when providing end user compute (EUC). But for service providers, giving the best performance and experience to their end customers is even more vital.

For many providers, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) offerings for can enable agility and speed within an end user organisation. However, service providers need to have the right underlying hardware to enable this, and many are hampered by using traditional VDI models.

Whilst these models are sufficient for many use cases, they begin to struggle when organisations have a growing contingent of power users (such as, developers, traders, and designers). These users require dedicated compute resource and guaranteed performance.

To compensate, service providers have to allow for more compute to be used by a crucial but disproportionate number of users, thus making their VDI model inefficient and more expensive for both the company and their customers. Furthermore, the key component for service providers is having an offering that delivers the best performance for the lowest cost, whilst ensuring that their customers are happy.

This is where utilizing Bare Metal VDI offerings such as HPE Moonshot come to the fore. The video below points to the work weโ€™ve done with Econis AG, a Swiss service provider for the banking sector, and the value theyโ€™ve seen in investing in a unique solution that meets their power usersโ€™ needs.

We have also worked with the likes of U.S.-based telecom CenturyLink to provide a Trader-as-a-Service solution, an EUC (End User Compute) offering which enabled two key things for their end customers:

  1.     Leverage HPE Moonshot technology and the ability to dedicate a small form factor, high-performance compute bare metal instance per trader in a cost-effective manner.
  2.     Enable CenturyLinkโ€™s adaptive network and access to in-region datacenters to deliver the solution directly into the trading floor with flexible high capacity and low latency, ensuring that performance isnโ€™t compromised.

So, whilst power user contingents are growing within many industries and remain crucial to operations, service providers in particular need to look to solutions that can effectively and efficiently provide EUC whilst maintaining low costs in order to maximize ROI for their service offerings.

Watch the video below to see how Swiss service provider Econis AG is reaping the benefits that Bare Metal VDI provides.
