I am a web developer and am often unsatisfied with the many web applications out there, that confuse, annoy, or just disregard the user's needs. I didn't understand what caused such websites to exist or what I could do to avoid doing that myself. Reading this answered this mystery.

This book doesn't have an in depth technical explanation of the solutions. It contains stories of how people got passionate about UX and pointers to a huge number of techniques and tips about how to make better sites. As a starting point, its perfect.
