What is outSPOKEN 8?

Outspoken 8.0 is a screen reader for blind and visually impaired users working with the Mac OS 8.0 OS and earlier. It relies on apple plaintalk voices installed within the system software and gives blind / visually impaired users access to most applications via the keyboard and mouse. Though scriptable to a degree, it was superceded by outspoken 9.2 for Mac OS 9.2.2 and earlier OS's. This software is extremely difficult to find. It is a control panel and system component and will boot within the desktop and boot system. This was then replaced by Mac OS X's Voiceover which became part of OSX 10.4 upwards to current. This was due to Alva group / berkelley Systems going bankrupt. Any remaining copies after the companies dissolved the software side of the business were subscequently  purchased and no further versions can be found.
